This royal animal actually owns a name that doesn't quite fit the species. Indeed, many snakes that bear the appellation "king" eat other snakes and proverbially move to the top of the hierarchy. However, the King python does not see its conspecifics as snacks and presumably owes its name to its splendor. The snake species has long been worshipped by kings, and this is mainly due to its crown-like spotting. In Paco's research station you sometimes have to look hard to find the snake. He likes to hide and is well camouflaged...

General information Ball python

Scientific name: Python regius

The Ball python is found mainly in western Africa. It moves there in tropical forests, savannas and grasslands. The snake loves water and almost always looks for a place near it. The Ball python belongs to the so-called strangling snakes, but is extremely friendly in nature. In the wild, the snake lives mostly alone, but it also tolerates conspecifics in its burrows and thus adopts a social attitude. The snake is called a "ball python" because when in danger it rolls up like a ball with its head centered in the middle.
